Blooms & Form
Pennycress produces bright apple-green branching stems loaded with round, flat seed pods that resemble tiny coins catching the light. As the season progresses the pods take on a warm wheaten tone. Stems are well-branched, well-branched, and incredibly versatile — equally stunning in fresh bouquets and dried autumn wreaths. A go-to textural filler that adds movement and that effortless wildflower feel to any arrangement.
How to Grow
- When to Plant: Start indoors 4 to 6 weeks before last frost and transplant out after frost danger has passed, or direct sow as soon as the ground can be worked in early spring.
- Where to Plant: Full sun, well-draining soil.
- Planting Tips: Sow seeds shallowly, about 1/4 inch deep. Germination in 7 to 21 days. Cold exposure improves germination — seeds benefit from a brief period of cold stratification.
- Spacing: Thin to 2 to 4 inches apart. Plants reach 36 to 40 inches tall.
- Care Tips: Do not pinch. Succession plant every 2 weeks for a continuous harvest. Harvest when seed pods are fully formed and the top blooms have faded.
